WHAT IS A VPAT?

A Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT™) is a document that explains how information and communication technology (ICT) products such as software, hardware, electronic content, and support documentation conform to the WCAG and Section 508 standards for IT accessibility. This template is used to help federal agency contracting officials and government buyers draft an Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR) to assess ICT for accessibility when doing market research and evaluating proposals.

How Can A VPAT Help Us?

It is recommended that vendors generate a VPAT for any ICT that’s intended to be marketed to the Federal Government to demonstrate how the features and functional characteristics of their product meet the Revised 508 standards. In the process of completing the form, you may discover digital assets that are out of VPAT compliance—so it can be helpful to use this as a guideline for your development team to build with VPAT accessibility in mind.
